Our Story
Paper High was born out of our love of travelling. We have travelled far and wide but it’s Asia that we have taken to our hearts.
Further travels have led to us finding more great Fair Trade suppliers in India, Nepal and in Sri Lanka too, including our elephant dung paper producer!
We only work with small family businesses, community incentives, charities and accredited Fair Trade organisations and our promise is that every product we sell is Fair Trade as set out by the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO). All our products are handmade by skilled artisans using sustainable or recycled materials wherever possible.
It is an absolute must to us that we have a mutually beneficial relationship with our fair trade suppliers. We love and respect the people we work with and have got to know them and their families well over the years and consider them true friends. It is always a joy to visit them and catch up on all the news.
Our Ethics
We have 3 golden rules for everything that we do:
Everything must be Fair TradeWe should have as little environmental impact as possibleWe should make a positive impact wherever we can
We only work with producers we know and visit on a regular basis to ensure that we can live up to our Fair Trade promise. Our producers are small family businesses and charities we work with to Fair Trade guidelines and World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) accredited co-operatives.All the products we sell are made using natural, sustainable resources. These can be the waste products of larger industry, for example, our Khadda paper is made from the cotton left over from the massive garment industry in India. Or it can be a more extreme sort of recycling like our elephant dung paper – no, it doesn’t smell but it does produce a wonderful natural paper!
Our Producers
All the products in this range are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India.
We are fortunate enough to visit them every year, having worked with them for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We are incredibly proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that may have otherwise been difficult to find, and consider the producers and their families true friends.
The paper in all our journals and photo albums is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages. For more information about the sustainable materials used, take a look at the product description.
By making a purchase, you are helping to continue the fantastic work of our producers.
